Turkey hang over?

Perhaps you woke up a bit more tired this morning from all the turkey, or maybe you woke up really early to get a jump start on your Christmas shopping?  NOT ME!  I have a wonderful husband that let me sleep in til almost 9:00 this morning.  I could get used to that Thanksgiving tradition!  Speaking of traditions I really want to start traditions with our family now that we have a little one…especially when she gets a bit older and can start to look forward to special occasions.

So, I’ve been thinking and thinking of various ideas that I could make stick each year.  Like maybe making homemade pizza together on Thanksgiving night, or drawing a picture of what we are thankful for and someday making a book out of the pictures, we could stay up late and watch Christmas movies…lots of ideas to consider.  Then, I suppose some traditions just start because.  They might not really have a rhyme or reason, they just sort of occur.  Maybe we will wait for that…

I am curious as to how many moms out there have traditions built into your families already?  Leave us a comment and let us know.

Today I’ve posted a few new articles for your weekend reading pleasure.  Hope they are helpful!

Our Thanksgiving was terrific, even if not in America. We did have a lot of leftovers, and some of it went straight into the freezer to save for Christmas dinner when we’re having our next big gathering. Just an idea.
Also, my husband told me tonight at dinner that something his mother used to do with lots of leftovers that she didn’t want ending up in the trash: Go ahead and make up a paper plate with servings of the leftover dishes, wrap it up well, then put it in the freezer. Then you have a lunch or a dinner ready to just pop in the microwave to thaw out. He said it worked really well for them on Sunday nights.

As for holiday traditions–I like the ones that start themselves naturally, but I am going to start one this year. I’m going to make an advent calendar for our family, something very simple. I always enjoyed mine while growing up. And as your little one gets older, she can definitely give her ideas about what should be repeated-I always liked it when I got to choose things, too growing up!

    So glad y’all are back!

We usually spend Thanksgiving with my husband’s family the Saturday before Thanksgiving and then we go to my sister’s for Thanksgiving Day and stay a day or two. I usually do Thanksgiving for my husband’s family here at our house and I freeze the turkey bones and some of the leftover meat and make soup in January.

A Christmas tradition that my sister and I had growing up was being able to open one Christmas present on Christmas Eve night. I’m planning on passing that one to my own children. My husband’s favorite Christmas tradition as a child was having the ‘Night Before Christmas’ read on Christmas Eve and we have done that each year with our son and will continue that tradition. We also read from Luke 2 about Christ’s birth so that our children will know the real reason we celebrate.
