Cereal…

Cold breakfast cereal

Cereal is the perfect staple for all moms. You can serve it up at any meal. Adding milk provides protein, and if you buy right, the cereal will also be fortified with vitamins and contain fiber! Seriously, who doesn’t love the convenience that a bowl of cereal provides. It’s better than heavily salted, soaked in grease, potatoes- at least, we hope they are still potatoes.

But right now cereal is not my friend. Why? An entire box covers my floor as my soon to be 4 yr. old tries not to crush it under his little toes. (I don’t think he’s trying hard enough.)

SIGH… do you think the 5 second rule applies here?

TONIGHT: CEREAL PANCAKES

Whip up this recipe for a yummy and good for your tummy meal.

2 cups Flour
2 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 tablespoon of sugar (optional)
1 egg
1 1/2 cups of milk
1 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
2 tablespoons of butter (melted)

1. Combine dry ingredients. (flour, baking powder, salt, sugar)
2. In separate bowl combine wet ingredients. (milk, eggs, vanilla)
3. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients. Mix well.
4. Cook over medium heat.

Adding extra milk to the batter creates thinner pancakes.

Try using organic flour, or go half wheat/ half white.

I use a teaspoon of melted butter in the pan to cook each pancake. Yes, it may not be the healthiest, but it sure tastes yummy!

The reality…
icon1 Aimee | icon2 All About Us | icon4 07 30th, 2008| icon31 Comment »

Well, the thrill of our first television debut is over, and I’m back to reality. My work was waiting on the desk, the dishes filled the sink, my tots missed me, and a migraine knocked out my morning. Ah, it’s good to be back.

To top it off, my youngest started in with a strange hoarse throaty sound yesterday afternoon (does anyone else know what I mean?). And by evening he was running a temperature. Of course, I suppress my worst fears of all the possible deadly viruses he may have contracted, and remind myself that little ones get sick.

So last night (all night) I stood watch over him. Alternated Tylenol and Motrin when needed, and rubbed his little back to help him get comfortable. All while my oldest used my hair as a pillow. (His security blanket ever since he was a tiny.)

Yes, it was truly an exciting experience to be on TV, but getting back to my crazy little life-priceless.

It’s wonderful to be needed. And humbling to bear that responsibility.

Well, our first television debut was a success! We wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made this day possible! If we had time to thank all of you on TV we would have…but for now this will have to do:

My amazing sister Crystal: For doing our nails, making a last minute trip to the store to pick up safety pins, and being an amazing source of encouragement. I love you. To all the incredible Mommy Who MOMS for your continued support and great ideas. Keep them coming and thanks for sharing in our Mommy Who journey!

Of course a huge THANKS go to our loving husbands for their patience over the past couple of days. A bowl

I just recently went on a bit of a shopping spree. I was in desperate need of some clothes so I headed off with my little one in tow for a shopping adventure. She did such a great job (at just 7 months old) so I decided to buy her a toy. I picked out a cute little baby cell phone. Hoping she would enjoy playing with this rather than MY cell phone. Not so much! So at present, my baby girl is surrounded with teething toys, little bears, her books, toys that light up and play music yet what is she getting the most enjoyment out of…? A bowl. Yep. Nothing special, it doesn’t spin around, light up or play annoying children’s songs, it’s just a regular Tupperware bowl I’ve had for years.

So, before you go shelling out more cash for more toys your kids just won’t play with, drag out a couple of plastic bowls from your cabinet and let you kids go crazy!

Does your child have a special item from your home they’ve turned into a “toy”? Leave us a comment and let us know!

Tossing the toons
icon1 Aimee | icon2 All About Us | icon4 07 20th, 2008| icon31 Comment »

Braun HF 1, Germany, 1959With two boys, my life has been one big hullabaloo. There’s punching, kicking, ear pulling, whinning, growling, pinching, pushing, crying, more kicking, and that covers the first ten minutes of the day. Oh no, they aren’t fighting… THEY ARE PLAYING! That’s right! Boys are boys and my boys are all boy.

The temptation to turn on the toons (cartoons) taunts me at every hour! I’m able to resist the call of quiet serenity in a box for a while, but by mid day I’m frantically searching for the remote.

At the end of everyday, the guilt of using my electronic baby sitter consumes me. Tomorrow I’ll do better. Tomorrow I’m going to take the TV out of the living room. Tomorrow I’m going to give away the TV. Tomorrow I’m going to set the TV ablaze!

Tomorrow hasn’t come yet. Until it does, I’ve decided to put myself on TV allowance. And I’m pushing myself to get more creative in how I manage to get work done without “medicating” my kids with mind numbing cartoons. I know it will be better for all of us… I think.

Wish me luck!
